Hey everyone and happy Power Rankings Monday! The Three Spot is back for another Team Logo Power Rankings, and this time we’re coming at you with the Double-A (or Double-AA, still don’t know!) South! This league is full of great logos, but you know we had to break ‘em all down for you!
This week featured some of our favorite minor league logos. We had some positive spins on our not-so-favorite letter-themed logos, and some pretty interesting characters!
This week, we had 5 guys on the rankings. Sean, CV9, Alex, Paul and the Baseball & Whatever guys are back as a returning guest! Be sure to give them a follow on Twitter (@BaseballandWhat). They’re an awesome group of guys who are fun to interact with on social media, and to talk to about baseball (or whatever, see what I did there?). They recently partnered up with Belly Up Sports, and their podcast features some of the most interesting content out there! Go give them a follow!
As usual, if you’re a regular reader of the blog, keep scrolling. We don’t want to drag you through all the scoring and category nonsense again. If you’re a first-time reader of either the blog or the Logo Power Rankings specifically, (THANK YOU for checking us out!), but check these blogs out now before reading on. It’ll definitely help you get a sense of how we do things!
As a reminder, we’re pulling our logos from this MiLB article series as our reference – the ones you see below 👇

Without Further Ado…
Double-A South League Power Rankings
#8 MISSISSIPPI BRAVES

Sean
“Only thing I’ll compliment here is the Braves color scheme. Otherwise, ugh. Just do better, Braves affiliate.
Scoop
“*yawn*”
CV9
“The Braves axe is so iconic and I love it. adding that touch to the letter logo makes this logo great, CHOP.”
Paul Caputo
“The only thing worse than appropriating Native American imagery for a sports brand is being unoriginal about appropriating Native American imagery for a sports brand. This brand finishes last in my Double-A South rankings and it would finish 120th out of 120 in my affiliated minor league rankings.”
Baseball and whatever
“There’s nothing worse than when a farm team just takes the persona of their parent club. It’s boring! We want originality. The color scheme is fine, but the less said about this one the better!”
#7 TENNESSEE SMOKIES

Sean
“Love the connection to the Smoky Mountains, and although this is a letter logo, I love the font and colors. They probably have a pretty sick hat.”
Scoop
“Why have a letter logo when you could have just put a pic of Chris Tucker in Friday?”
Cv9
“The Plain old letter logo with the “TS” isn’t too great but I know they have a pretty sick logo with a bear with a bat that looks seriously menacing. Unfortunately that isn’t the logo were scoring here today.”
Paul caputo
“Another team in this league named for mountains. Their brand feels awfully close to their parent club’s, the Cubs, but it’s a strong look with traditional colors.”
Baseball and whatever
“This name/logo gets points for its incorporation of the Smoky Mountains. However, besides that, it doesn’t have a whole lot going for it. The alternate bear logo isn’t bad, and we’d like to see that used more than just the simple TS.”
#6 BIRMINGHAM BARONS

Sean
“Automatic Space Jam montage, but great connection to the former coal industry in the region, and honestly, love the old-English font.”
Scoop
“This logo always confused me as a kid. Always mixed it up with the Tigers logo. For a letter logo, it’s alright. S/o Stan Podolak from Space Jam.”
Cv9
“Huge fan of the old school script letter logo, just so much better than letter logos nowadays. This team is most notable for Michael Jordans stint with them.”
Paul caputo
“This logo evokes the history of this city and its baseball team. The old-timey Olde English B conjures the Coal Barons team that played in the city and the Negro Leagues Black Barons. This gang automatically discounts any type-based cap logo, so I don’t expect this one to finish high in this ranking, but this is a great brand replete with history.”
Baseball and whatever
“As much as we love the Barons in Space Jam, and Greg’s White Sox love includes the Barons, the logo itself doesn’t do a whole lot. The “Old English” font is neat because it’s not used nearly as much as it was back in the day. The Baron name refers to the Coal Barons is a nice touch as well. However, there’s not too much else to say about them.”
#5 CHATTANOOGA LOOKOUTS

Sean
“I believe I’ve played for this team an insane amount of times in Road to the Show. This logo makes other letter logos shake in their boots, because he’s always watching. Not my favorite, but a decent logo in my opinion.”
Scoop
“The eyes, chico. They never lie.”

CV9
“Always was a fan of this logo for some odd reason. Every year starting my Road to the Show as a kid I would see this logo, and have enjoyed it ever since.”
Paul caputo
“The Lookouts are named for nearby Lookout Mountain, but their logo is based on an anthropomorphized letter form doing the actually looking. It’s one of the oldest teams in the minors, and its logo feels updated to match. It’s certainly more cute than intimidating, and blue and red are all too common, but it’s all about the local connection and it gets points for longevity.”
baseball and whatever
“This is a logo and hat that Justin has wanted since he was a kid. It’s a great and unique logo that definitely stands out amidst the crowd. The fact that the team name refers to the Lookout Mountains nearby is also a lot of fun. There’s not a whole lot of intimidation, but it definitely is something that you won’t see anywhere else.”
#4 BILOXI SHUCKERS

Sean
“Anything sea/ocean related wins in my book. Love it. You have no idea what that oyster is thinking, which scares me a bit, and they’ve never won a championship, so you know that oyster is hungry for one.”
scoop
“No comment on what brainy thing this reminded me of on first glance, but this logo is definitely the thunder from down under.”
cv9
“Great and very original name, adding to a great oyster logo. Who thinks of this stuff? Maybe I should ask the legendary Paul Caputo.”
Paul caputo
“This is a fun twist on a handful of Gulf Coast teams with brands inspired by seafood or the fishing industry. My friend Johnny has a tattoo of this logo, so you know it inspires loyalty! I like the colors, it’s definitely unique, it’s very appropriate to the area. It’s not necessarily intimidating, but does it want to be?”
baseball and whatever
“We love the color scheme. The blue and cream colors are unique and definitely are a lot of fun. We also had to look at the geography of Mississippi and thought the incorporation of sea life on the coast was a pretty good addition.”
#3 PENSACOLA BLUE WAHOOS

Sean
“I had no idea what a Wahoo was until we reached this power ranking. Beautiful colors, great connection to the fishing industry in the area, and a great job being a letter logo without really being a letter logo.”
scoop
“What in the heck is a Wahoo?”
cv9
“Top tier name with a solid color scheme, and another very original logo. Solid logo.”
paul caputo
“They’re the first team in professional sports to use the color rubine red, and they wore all pink before the Florence Flamingoes made it cool. Another Gulf Coast team based on the fishing industry, and that is a strong fish breaking through that fishing line. The way the fish curves to form the letter P is a great detail.”
baseball and whatever
“Cool name, cool logo, cool color scheme. Not much else to say. We really like this one!”
#2 MONTGOMERY BISCUITS

Sean
“Can more teams add anthropomorphic food to their repertoire? At first glance without knowing the team name, I thought this was a grilled cheese. I’m not going to lie here. But I look closer and see the butter slice… It’s just beautiful. Delectable. Scrumptious. Okay look, it’s a great logo and I need to hurry this up before I eat my keyboard. Amazing logo. Minor league logo legend.”
scoop
“I don’t usually love logos, but these biscuits: HUEHHHHHHHHH”
cv9
“Definitely a top 10 logo in all of the minor leagues and another one I always loved as a kid playing Road to the Show.”
paul caputo
“The Biscuits were one of the early adopters of the wacky minor league logo and they’ve earned the credibility that comes with it. They’re a fan favorite nationwide, they play off that cultural staple, the southern biscuit, and their colors are great. The logo itself is not meant to be intimidating, but I certainly wouldn’t want to draw them in the early rounds of a March Madness logo bracket!”
baseball and whatever
“If you told me that a team would take on the amazing breakfast food and make it a logo, I’d call you crazy! However, the Biscuits just work. The color scheme is fantastic, the logo is silly, but fun, and overall we just dig it.”
#1 ROCKET CITY TRASH PANDAS

Sean
“This is just perfect. I need any type of merchandise with this Trash Panda on it and I need it now. The colors are perfect. The whole style and demeanor of the raccoon is perfect. This guy is going to lay down a drag bunt and round the bases before the ball is even touched. I want him on my team and he’s an easy/early favorite for the #1 overall pick in our Double-A logos draft.”
scoop
“Everything about this is electric. Just pure excellence. Trash Pandas to the moooooooooon.”
cv9
“By far my favorite logo of all logos we’ve done so far. Have yet to see a racoon portrait better than this. Rocket from the Guardians of the Galaxy has nothing on this logo.”
paul caputo
“They’re the darling of minor league branding the last few years. The patriotic astronaut raccoon *maybe* loses half a point for originality because the name evokes the raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy, but otherwise this logo is spot on. Great colors, appropriate to the area’s aeronautic industry, and who’s going to mess with him?”
baseball and whatever
“Long live the Trash Panda! We love this logo and color scheme as well. We did a little research and supposedly the team wanted to focus on a space/engineering vibe because there are a lot of engineers in the community. They even came up with a back story in which the “trash panda” is on a mission to create a rocket to get to the moon. When a team puts that much work into their brand, we are all for it!”
